A member of Nyamira county assembly has called upon his constituents to embrace their constitutional right by participating in matters pertaining county government.
Speaking at Nyabuya village on Saturday, Gesima ward MCA, Ken Atuti said many residents were ignoring meetings convened by the county government to discuss various issues affecting them before questioning subsequent projects launched by the government.
He said leadership is participatory and urged residents to take their responsibilities seriously besides shunning critics who have allegedly been inciting residents against attending public participation meetings.
“Public participation in any project is mandatory and as residents we must know that. This is very important because we must work together as a team. it will not be in order if some people incites you and later on you get at the frontline to attack leaders over the same,” he said.
According to him, the county government had failed to implement most of the projects due to opposition from a section of county residents which he termed as unfair.
“Many of the projects launched by the county leadership have not kicked off due to constant opposition from a few of residents who never participate in most of our developmental meetings. Time has come for us to shun such politicians who want to drag us behind by attending public participation meetings,” he said.
Mr. Atuti reiterated that the John Nyagarama led government was working for the good of residents and accused the media for allegedly been biased in coverage.
“The media has always been used to make the government look bad. What is important is for us to support the Governor and his team and this can be done by public participation which is empowered by you,” he said.
