Kisii Central MCA Wilfred Monyenye has called on the Kisii County government, through the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to give a report on the cutting of trees planted in Kisii town central business district.

Speaking at the Kisii county assembly on Thursday, Monyenye lamented that the flowers were planted to beautify the face of the town with the now defunct Kisii Municipal Council, in which he served for several years, and the trees that were planted then are being cut at a very high rate to make space for car parks in the town.

Monyenye said that the move is working against the rule of conserving the environment, and also spoiling the beauty of the town asking that a comprehensive report be published and forwarded to the assembly as soon as possible by the relevant authorities.

“Mr. Speaker Sir, pursuant to standing order number 41(c) I raise to seek a statement to the chairman of the energy water and natural resources concerning the beauty of our county headquarters with regard to the following, there is cut down of olden days trees and destruction of flowers planted by the defunct Municipal council of Kisii which formed the basis of our towns beaty,” he said.
