The Ministry of Trade in Nakuru County has laid down a raft of measures in a bid to help streamline operations in its municipal markets.
Chief officer in charge of Tourism, Trade and Industrialization Edith Kimani Monday stated that there are a number of proposals they are considering to help boost revenue collection for the county from Wakulima and Top markets.
Among some of the proposals, Kimani hinted at outsourcing waste disposal services for the markets, privatization of markets sanitation and an electronic revenue collection centres across the two markets.
"We will outsource waste disposal services to encourage competence and hard work among the bidders. All we will need from them however is to work with locals here in the exercise," she said.
She further added that there is a trade act which will be tabled before the cabinet which seeks to change ownership of stalls which she concluded was subject to controversy in the markets.
"We have heard of cases where traders own stalls for over 30 years after which they are inherited by their relatives. We want to change that through the Trade Act," she said.
She lauded traders for consistently paying taxes adding that revenue collection from the markets had gone up.
