Seven secondary school students were arrested on Wednesday night at a local pub in Kikuyu, consuming alcohol.
Confirming the incident, the Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said that the students were arrested after police on patrol in the town entered the pub.
The students who were from the same school are said to had left school that evening. However, according to investigations gathered, none of thoe students was a resident in the area.
The police boss said the owner of the bar escaped through a back door and the bar will remain closed until the owner is arrested and arraigned in court.
Maweu said the students are in police custody adding that it is a serious crime to admit minors in bars.
Maweu said the crime is rampant during school holidays and warned bar owners against selling alcohol to minors.
"Bar owners should avoid selling alcohol to minors especially during this school holiday as it is a serious crime," said Maweu.
He added that boarding schools in the region should release students early enough during closing days to ensure the students get home in time.
The police boss also advised parents to be picking their children from school to avoid immorality brought by social influence.
