Residents of Nyamira County have given mixed statements on the development record of Governor John Nyagarama, with a section of them demanding more from the county government.

Speaking at Enchoro primary school in West Mugirngo constituency, the residents accused the county leadership of derailing development by failing to lay clear strategies of improving the region in terms of development.

They said Nyagarama should reconstitute his cabinet by recruiting more competent county executives who could bring new ideas on how to spur development in the region.

“It is quite sad that we are lagging behind development despite the introduction of devolved systems of governance. Other counties have set down strategies in different sectors unlike in Nyamira. Time has come for the governor to crack a whip on his county executives,” said Mr Pius Mosota.

However, a section of residents defended the governor by lauding his record especially on infrastructure and education besides investing in agriculture.

“Let us stop being insincere with the county leadership. The county government is on record for improving our road networks and agriculture. The education sector has not been left behind either and that is why we need to tell people the truth,” said Mr Alex Obutu.

They were, however, categorical that the county government should improve on its mechanisms of absorbing casual laborers in the region.

“We want to agree that absorption of casual laborers has not been done in a transparent manner. It is important that we change that for the benefit of our people,” added Mr Obutu.
