Members of Mochenu Self Help Group in Sironga, Nyamira County have a reason to smile after they received grade cows from of a Non Governmental Organisation.

According to the Netherland based organization representative Jack Martin, they decided to give fifteen quality cows to the group after it showed commitment to venture into dairy farming since they have already ten grade cows.

The 20 member group’s chairperson Joshua Mayuya said the cows they received will boost them in achieving their goals and become Nyamira’s leading milk producing group and generate good income for them.

He thanked the Netherlands based organisation for boosting them with the cows, and said they will work hard to ensure that their project succeeds.

However, the group will be required to surrender the first calves to the organisation, so that other groups can also benefit.

“Through the project, the organisation aims at empowering and improving the livelihoods of group members. It also helps envision the groups besides empowering them with modern agricultural skills,” he stated.

He called upon other organizations to ensure that they start projects that will help them in the future and also create self employment opportunities.
