Former president Daniel arap Moi has called for the diversification of country’s education system so as to make graduates more marketable and easy to adapt to the changing market demands.

Speaking at the Kabarak University in Nakuru County during the official launch of two fresh departments at the institution, he regretted the fact that fresh graduates were struggling to break into the job market because of being offered less pro-practical courses.

The former head of state expressed concern at the quality of education being offered at different institutions of higher learning across the country which according to him was more theory-oriented forgetting that the market is in dare need of people with hands on experience.

He further called for the introduction of more technical courses in colleges, polytechnics and universities to help bridge this gap.

“Our young people are not to blame for not landing that dream job, the curriculum at our institutions needs immediate moderation. Courses being offered today don’t equip learners with any life skills, you are given general knowledge then disposed off to the professional world,” he said.

“Professionalism is double edged, you got to know what you are doing both theoretically and practically for you to perform at your best,” he explained.

He stressed the fact that Kabarak University was committed to offering quality education that ensures the development of a wholistic person ripe for the ever competitive market.

The university expanded its range of courses by opening the School of Music and performing arts and School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
