Moi University students have been urged to stay calm following tension created at the institution over claims of a terror attack.

On Thursday morning, classes were paralysed as students sought answers from the administration over the security issues forcing the Vice Chancellor Prof Richard Mibei to address them.

However, Prof Mibei assured the students of their security, stating they have taken measures to address their concerns such having police officers patrolling the institution full time.

“We as the institution we have put in place security measures and we are much aware of your security, stay calm. I urge you to go back to class and study, security officers are doing their work and so there is nothing to worry, al Shabaab are cowards,” said Mibei.

The VC further confirmed that investigations into the whereabouts of four missing students are ongoing, and asked the students to report any information pertaining the same.

Security personnel were already at the institution who also assured the students of their safety.

This happened amid information doing rounds in mainstream media that the university is a target for a terror attack.

Security and accommodations director, David Sanchez, had urged students to be vigilant and asked them to carry their student IDs at all times.

Early this year, the terror group attacked Garissa University College, a constituent college of Moi University where 147 people died most of them students.
