Police officers within Molo Sub-County have been put to task to ensure the area is free of illicit brews, deputy commissioner has said.
Reacting to recent reports that more than 10,000 litres of illicit chang’aa and kangara were destroyed in the area over the weekend, Molo deputy commissioner Judith Cheruiyot accused the relevant officers of not employing enough mechanisms to facilitate the process.
She called on all AP and police station commanders to work with chiefs and village elders to ensure the perpetrators are arrested.
“It’s sad that our area is all over in the news over such practices knowing very well that the war against such brews is on-going across the country,” she told reporters in her office on Wednesday.
According to Cheruiyot, the local administration was not working at its level best because majority of the illicit brews were being manufactured in the villages.
“You cannot convince all of us that as a chief, assistant chief or village elder; you have no clue of the notorious brewers in your backyard, something must be wrong somewhere,” she said.
Cheruiyot cautioned all non-performing security agents that the time to crack the whip was soon coming saying it was their responsibility to cub such vices in the area.
“If Molo has become too much for you, let us help you get transferred because non-performance has no place within the area leadership ranks,” she warned.
This comes barely a day after police officers in the area accused peddlers of using quire means to transport illicit brews beating traffic check points.
