The Bahati Ward MCA has assured residents that he will keep his promise of making sure the area has good supply of clean tapped water in all homesteads.

Bahati is a water scarce area and according to the area MCA, Peter Nderitu, 60 per cent of the ward funds go to schemes aiming to mitigate water shortage.

While speaking at Maili Kumi trading centre on Saturday, he said: “Water projects of Landi Mawe, Karunga, Chania Intake dam and Chania water project have been commissioned and are expected to improve access of water in our area."

Sourced from Banita, Landi Mawe water project will supply the commodity to 10, 000 residents, while Chania projects will supply water to other households in the upper side of Bahati the MCA said.

He regretted that the Chania water project was closed 15 years ago after residents were unable to pay bills.

At the same time, Mr Nderitu refuted claims that the ward had received Sh50 million in the last two financial years for development saying the area had a budget allocation of only Sh35 million within the two years.

Approximately 23,000 people in Bahati sub-county have benefited from water projects since the financial year 2013/14 to date.

This is inclusive of about 7,000 people in Bahati Ward.

“Bahati Ward was allocated Sh10 million in 2013/14, and Sh25 million in 2014/15, so do not believe any propaganda. As for the youth we have trained about 100 of them in computer skills and maintenance” he said.
