Residents of Nyawita in Maseno are calling on mothers from the area to dispose off baby diapers carefully, in a manner which does not interfere with daily lives of others.
According to the residents, used baby diapers are littered everywhere and they are now fearing for their health stating they might get cholera disease.
“Everywhere you step you will meet a used baby diaper and this is not good at all, because this is an area inhabited by humans,” said Catherine Kioko, resident.
A spot check in the area, showed diapers and other dirt littered on the major paths used. The diapers have been linked to young mothers in the area whom stay in rental houses.
According to the residents, the mothers should be considerate about the welfare of other residents when disposing off the used diapers.
“Why can't they find a decent way to dispose off the diapers to ensure nobody is interfered with. I'm sure they are aware that careless disposal of diapers is wrong,” said Paul Ochieng a local elder.
With the rain season setting in, the locals are fearing that the used diapers might contaminate their water sources exposing them to diseases.
Residents who addressed this writer urged the mothers to use common sense and do the right thing by disposing off the diapers in the right places.
