Mothers in Kisumu County have been urged to take their children to clinics for regular checkups as it is beneficial to their health.

Monica Akumu from the Child Aid Kenya Organisation said despite efforts being put in place by the government, many mothers still ignore the importance of taking their children to clinics for checkups.

Akumu said that at least two out of five children are not vaccinated, and mothers need to take responsibility and ensure these statistics changes.

“Vaccination is very important in a child’s life development as it prevents diseases that might affect the child in future. Mothers should take advantage of the improved healthcare in the country,” said Akumu.

She said parents who don’t take their children to clinics are doing harm to them as they are endangering their lives and making them vulnerable to diseases such as polio that usually have a negative impact on the lives.

“I would also like to urge all pregnant mothers to visit clinics for checkups to prevent complications to both the mother and child,” added Akumu.

She also urged the government to establish mobile clinics to help mothers who live in area that are easily accessible to hospitals.

Akumu spoke to Hivisasa on Wednesday on phone.
