An angry mob in Kisii town on Thursday beat up a motorist who allegedly knocked down an expectant mother when she was heading to hospital.
The 25-year-old motorist was critically injured after the mob descended on him. He was later taken to Ram Hospital by well wishers.
A witness, Ms Grace Gesare, said the woman was crossing the road when the speeding motorist headed towards Kisii Resort knocked her down and tried to escape. However, people who were passing by came to rescue.
Kisii acting traffic commandant Mr Justine Kuria confirmed the incident saying the man suffered a broken leg and severe head injuries. He said he was admitted to Ram Hospital but will be charged before a court after his recovery.
Kuria said the injured woman was also rushed to Ram Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
He said eye witnesses had been summoned to the Police Station to record statement.
