Motorists plying the Kisumu-Busia highway are calling on transport officials to find alternative routes for long distance trucks using the road.
According to the motorists the trucks are usually slow and occupy a lot of space on the two-lane highway resulting in unnecessary delays.
The motorists who spoke to Hivisasa said that they are highly inconvenienced by the trucks.
“Movement sometimes is not smooth because trucks are always ahead and moving slowly, overtaking is a risky option because the road is not that wide," said Harrison Munialo a matatu driver.
The trucks mostly headed for to Uganda transporting fuel have raised safety concerns among the motorists.
“The road is narrow with many fuel transporting trucks, what happens when one of them gets involved in an accident? It means the consequences will be fatal," said Nashon Ocholla a motorist.
The motorists are calling on the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure to either find an alternative route for the trucks or expand the road by two more lanes.
“In the first place how can such a road have only two lanes considering that it is a major highway in this region and the traffic is tremendous?" said Sandra Ingosi a motorist on the road.
