Motorists in Kikuyu Sub-County have been cautioned against over speeding along the Kikuyu southern bypass.

Speaking in her office on Monday, Kikuyu Traffic Base Commander Elizabeth Wakuloba said three accidents had been reported in the past two months which were all as a result of over speeding.

The inspector said over speeding was a crime as all vehicles should have a speed governor in a bid to avoid such cases. The traffic commander faulted matatu operators saying they usually ignore traffic rules all in the name of making money.

She said those who will be arrested will face the wrath of the law for ignoring traffic rules and also risking people's lives by doing so.

Inspector Wakuloba said traffic police will carry out frequent patrols along the southern bypass to ensure that such drivers are arrested.

She said lives are lost on the roads as a result of careless drivers who's aim is to benefit themselves and do not care about the safety of other road users.

Wakuloba said cases of over speeding are mainly witnessed during the night and early morning as drivers take advantage of the clear roads to drive in very high speeds hence end up causing accidents.

''All road users plying the Kikuyu Southern bypass should ensure their vehicles have speed governors to limit their speed when driving. We have heard cases of some drivers interfering with governors. Those who will be arrested will serve as an example to the rest,'' said Inspector Wakuloba.
