Nyaribari Chache parliamentary aspirant Zaheer Jhanda has accused the area MP Richard Tong’i of slowing to seek for employment opportunities for youths in the constituency.
Speaking on Sunday at Ibeno COG Primary School during a sanitary towels harvesting event for Ibeno Ward schools organised by Smart Girl Foundation, Jhanda claimed that despite MP Tong’i being a Jubilee government die-hard and ‘kitchen member’ he could not get employment slots in the ongoing National Youth Service (NYS) recruitment for the area youths.
“I have no personal problem with MP Tong’i but we can not sit and watch things get worse. How did Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka of ODM Party manage to benefit with 1,350 slots of employment to the NYS yet Tong’i who is a Jubilee member did not get one?,” questioned Jhanda adding, “We can not be last in everything ranging from ranking to even job opportunities.
He added, “We are counting several months down the line since MP Tong'i promised to clear a balance for Nyamagwa Secondary School bus amounting to Sh4 million, but since then he has not lived to his promise. Its only Sh2 million that had been paid out Sh6 million and the school might loose the bus at any time from now because the Bank wants to auction it,” disclosed Jhanda.
Kitutu Chache South and Bonchari constituencies are among the 66 out of 390 constituencies that were identified for recruitment of youths to NYS to clean up towns, market and centres and other work, whereby Bonchari got 1,000 slots while Kitutu Chache South took a lion share with 1,350 employment opportunities.
Jhanda donated eight cartons of sanitary towels and soaps in the pads harvesting event for girls in Ibeno Ward schools.
His concerns were vehemently supported by another parliamentary aspirant from Nyaribari Chache, Rachel Otundo who wondered why the constituency was sidelined, yet it covered a larger section of Kisii town and has other centres that need cleaning service among other services.
However, Ben Mogaka who is also eying for Nyaribari Chache parliamentary seat, differed with the two saying employment to NYS is done on rotational basis.
Also in the event was chairman for Constitution Implementation Commission Charles Nyachae, Kisii County Women Rep. Mary Sally Otara, Governor James Ongwae’s wife Elizabeth Ongwae among other leaders.
Kiogoro Ward MCA Samuel Apoko had also criticised area MP Tong’i for crawled development experienced in the constituency.
MCA Apoko challenged ability of the MP to work for the electorate citing mismanagement of resources allocated for development.
