Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has called on politicians across the country and especially those from Ukambani to conduct themselves with decency while in public so as to be good role models to children and youth.
Addressing journalists at the Heritage of Faith and Hope Children Home in Mavoko, Machakos County on Monday, Makau said some politicians were instilling undesirable traits and characters in children and the youth.
Makau condemned acts of certain leaders inclusive of governors, senators, MPs and MCA's who engage in insults and at times attempt getting physical whenever they differ in public.
"We cannot keep on doing business of chest thumping as leaders. We need to learn to agree on issues to avoid unnecessary drama while in public," said Makau.
The legislature sited various instances where very respected senior and renown politicians have publicly differed and spatted words of insults at each other.
"Politics of development should supersede that of chest thumping. I condemn the recent heckling of the deputy president in Bomet County," said Makau.
Makau said that leaders should shun such drama arguing that they show bad pictures to children most of who stand high chances of learning and adopting bad characters from the politicians' actions.
"We must think about this nation. We need to develop everyone and the best is to make the locals be proud of us as leaders by steering them in the right direction through proper mentorship," said Makau.
Makau added that governors should also be cautious of the fact that they hold public offices and manage public funds and therefore need not operate like kings but servants to people they represent.
