Moiben MP Silah Tiren has challenged university graduates in the country to venture into agriculture and embrace entrepreneurship as a source of self of employment to help curb the rising unemployment rate.
Speaking on Saturday during the University of Eldoret Trade Fair, Tiren urged graduates not to waste most of their precious time looking for white collar jobs, but rather venture into agriculture and practice it as a business.
"Graduates, who are mostly youths, should embrace agriculture and use modern farming methods to produce crops and animals of high breeds," he said.
"With youths access to Uwezo Funds, they have the opportunity to apply for the loans, and I advise them to use the funds and venture into agriculture and they will see its fruits," he added.
"I have been practicing agriculture since I cleared my university education and I have nothing to regret since I am better off than being employed, and I can tell you for sure agriculture pays," he added.
He urged the national and county government to empower youths with skills and knowledge on how to practice agriculture as a business, and not as it used to be for home consumption, and by so doing, cases of unemployment among the youths will be a thing of the past.
