Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange has accused police in Gilgil of releasing a man suspected of dealing in illicit alcohol under unclear circumstances.

Koinange says that the suspect, Musa Sitahi, was arrested on Monday after allegedly being found with methanol used in the preparation of illicit liquor but police released him later without arraigning him in court.

“He was arrested with 200 litres of methanol and taken to Gilgil Police Station but was released after paying Sh30,000," said Koinange.

The legislator questioned the procedure used to set free the suspect who he says has ignored the residents' advise to quit the trade.

“Musa has been distributing the killer drink knowing the danger it poses without being arrested by police," said Koinange.

Speaking on Monday at Ruaka Trading Center Ndenderu Ward in Kiambaa Sub-County, Koinange called for the overhaul for the judiciary and provincial administration in the region for failing to fight the menace.

He has accused the judiciary officers in the area of being compromised.

“I want the Chief justice Mutunga to fire the resident Magistrate in Kiambu for falling short of his judicial work," said Koinange.

He also called for replacement of Ndenderu location chief Mr Stephen Mungai for saying he has been lenient in the fight against illegal alcohol trade.

The lawmaker called on the residents to continue the fight against the sale of lethal liquor, which he said, has ruined lives of many young people.
