Naivasha constituency has set aside Sh1 million to be used towards restoration of lake Naivasha.

Speaking after meeting with stakeholders at Naivasha Training Institute on Wednesday, area MP John Kihagi said the money to restore the lake will be sourced from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty.

Kihagi stated that adequate measures need to be taken to maintain the economic value of the lake.

“We are ready to restore and conserve Lake Naivasha because it’s a source of livelihood for us,” he said.

The legislator decried rising cases of poaching in the area adding that there is need for stringent measures to be taken against poachers.

He called on the county government to put in place polices that will create jobs for youths who, he said, are engaged in the illegal poaching.

The MP disclosed that a programme to help farmers venture into fish farming will be launched in a few months.

Kihagi said fish farming is lucrative and will help residents improve their socio-economic standards.
