Subukia MP Nelson Gaichuhie has urged the media fraternity to be responsible and report objectively.

The MP said though the passage of laws that appear to impede freedom of the media may be driven by selfish interests by certain MPs, he has always advocated for the protection of freedom of the press.

“It is important though for the media to do their work in a responsible manner and report objectively. There are instances they do their work with malice. Some journalists do not verify information therefore when such information is published, it causes more harm,” Gaichuhie said.

He added that the gains made in safeguarding the freedom of the press need to be jealously guarded and called on the media too to respect and guard other people’s rights.

At the same time, Gaichuhie said he supports the new CDF Bill saying the fund has made significant impact in enhancing development at the grassroots.

“The fund will be directed towards projects that are under the national government. CDF used to fund the health sector by putting up structures. However, health has been devolved. The fund will continue to cater for the students’ bursaries which are a key area in education sector,” he added.

He spoke to this writer on Monday at Kabazi trading center.
