Students and teachers of Risa primary school from Kitutu Masaba constituency have asked the area MP to initiate installation of a thunder arrestor in the institution due to the danger posed by persistent lightning in this rainy season.
Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Sunday during a visit in the area, pupils and teachers were concerned of their safety and appealed to Timothy Bosire to facilitate the request.
According to them, two students were critically injured in mid-June following a thunder strike, something that has since instilled fear among the learners.
“It is no longer safe to teach during rainy evenings because of thunder strikes. The institution has been a constant target and this is not really making it any better whether for teachers or students. In June, we almost lost two of our pupils but I am glad that God helped them,” said senior teacher Peter Ombachi.
They asked the MP to intervene in a bid to avert the increasing number of students registering absenteeism during school days due to the fear.
“To be honest, they really fear the thunder strike and that is why we are having increasing number of students failing to report to class due to the danger and that is why we request Bosire to intervene,” he added.
A class 8 pupil confirmed the danger and asked authorities to work fast to save the situation of pupils failing to report to school due to danger posed by the thunder.
“We are victims of thunder attacks and that is why on behalf of my colleagues I call upon our MP to intervene,” she said.
