Githunguri MP Peter Njoroge Baiya has called on MPs spearheading a censure motion against the National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale to drop it for the sake of Jubilee coalition unity.
A section of central Kenya MPs have launched a campaign to impeach Duale for failing to submit the list of Al-Shabaab sympathisers and financiers as he had promised soon after the Garissa attack that claimed over 147 students.
The motion is being spearheaded by Kieni MP Kanini Kega and is being backed by fellow MPs from the Central Kenya.
Baiya said that the issue of insecurity is under the interior Ministry and Duale is not involved in it.
“Duale's role is confined to Parliament and the issue of insecurity is under the docket of Interior Ministry,” said Baiya.
He said that Duale has effectively defended the government policy in the National Assembly and accusations against him for not supporting the government against terrorism do not hold water.
“Duale has also cooperated in the fight against terrorism and those accusing him are acting in bad faith,” said Baiya.
The legislator said the motion may create a rift among Kenyan tribes if it sails through.
“The motion is an attempt to bring divisive politics among tribes,” said Baiya.
The calls for Duale's censure started immediately during the burial of 12 victims of Al -Shabaab attacks in Mandera who were buried at Chaka, Nyeri County.
Nyeri MPs have constantly challenged elected leaders from North Eastern to produce a list of Al -Shabaab supporters.
Baiya said that the motion was ill informed and urged those launching attack against Duale to cooperate for the sake of national unity.
Speaking yesterday at Githunguri Town, Kiambu County during a development tour, Baiya called on Kenyans to support the government fight against terrorism.
