Eldoret West OCPD Smollets Munyianzi has told to residents to be vigilant and report cases of crime in their estates to enable the police pursue suspected criminals.
Speaking at Eldoret Town after holding a meeting with security officials at a hotel in the town on Saturday, Munyianzi said security in the area has been intensified.
He said more police patrols are being mounted in areas that have been perceived as crime hotspots. Munyianzi said that police are relying on the public to give information on the whereabouts of criminals.
“Members of the public are encouraged to work with us in our efforts to fight crime and lawlessness,” he said.
Munyianzi said that police have been receiving tip-offs from the public which, he said, has helped them pursue notorious criminals. He assured residents of their security stating that there is no need for them to worry or panic.
“We are determined to flush out criminals and restore order across Eldoret Town,” he said.
He at the same time urged bodaboda riders and taxi operators in the town to support the police in fighting crime. He said that there have been cases of taxi operators and bodaboda riders being attacked by suspected criminals.
Munyianzi urged the taxi operators to be vigilant and demand information from their customers before offering them services saying that some people pose as customers when they are criminals.
