Irate residents of Juja on Thursday heckled their MP who had arrived to calm protests that have been ongoing this week over land grabbing accusations.

The legislator, Francis Munyua, arrived at the scene where police had been dispersing protesters and requested to address them. Instead, they heckled him singing praises for an aspiring MP from the area.

The MP had a tough time as the police later walked away and left him and his followers to engage in dialogue which eventually failed. He has faulted his rivals for inciting his constituents saying that there is need to stop politicking and engage in development.

“Juja children are learning in private schools but when I construct a school, you foil development. We cannot live in politics from January to January. Let’s join hands and work together,” the legislator urged the residents.

The leader is accused of constructing a secondary school on a common land that was given out by the area land owners and failure to involve the land owners who also claim to own the land.

Thika DCC Jeremiah Gicheru had earlier arrived at the scene but was unable to calm the protests forcing him to give up and walk away leaving the police to maintain calmness.

Eventually, Munyua drove off but vowed to go ahead with the construction as the land is a public property.
