Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua has promised to find a lasting solution to the persistent garbage problem in Mavoko Sub-County.

On Tuesday, Mutua said he was aware of the heaps of garbage lying uncollected in the sub-county, with the major towns and slums being the most affected.

"I am aware of the garbage problem which the residents of Mavoko sub-county have been facing for some time. My government will fix it once and for all," said Mutua.

Mutua said his government was committed to improving the county’s sanitation to prevent diseases caused by unhygienic conditions.

He requested the residents to be patient as the concerned county government officers strategise on how to make garbage collection in the sub-county a success.

The governor was accompanied by Athi River Township Ward MCA Michael Mutua who raised concern over the amount of garbage lying uncollected in the county.

Mutua who was addressing journalists in Mavoko, said more personnel and equipment would be provided by the county government to end the garbage menace once and for all.
