National Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) chairman John Mututho has asked the police to help the agency fight illicit brewing.

Mututho says that the police have a crucial role to play to curb illicit brewing and sale of alcohol to teenagers.

The Nacada chair states that police can help by conducting frequent raids and swoops on suspected brewers.

Speaking to the press after holding a meeting with bar operators at a local hotel in Gatundu South on Monday, Mututho stated that law enforcers do not require court orders to conduct swoops on suspected dens.

“I urge the police and local administrators to support our efforts in the fight against illicit brewing,” he pleaded.

Mututho also asked the police to crackdown on bars and pubs contravening the ‘Mututho’ drinking hours.

On the same note, Mututho said the agency has deployed over 100 officers to crackdown on bar and pub operators contravening the law.

The Nacada chair said that licenses of operators found to ignoring the law will be seized.

He said the agency is determined to fight drug abuse and all costs and urged other government agencies to render their support.
