Nakuru Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto has criticised the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) Chairman John Mututho for interfering with Nakuru politics.
Ruto was angered by statement attributed to Mututho that at least 11 patients have lost their lives due to the on-going strike by Nakuru doctors. Mututho had blamed the county government for the standoff.
“Mututho should concentrate on the fight against the killer drinks and should stop interfering with Nakuru politics,” said Ruto.
Speaking to the media on Friday in Nakuru, Ruto accused Mututho of not carrying out investigations before making the statements.
“How did he know that 11 patients died?” wondered Ruto. “Mututho is playing politics with the strike issue.”
Ruto said that Mututho's allegations were politically motivated and urged him to wait until 2017.
“Mututho should not use cheap politics to gain political mileage. Let him wait till 2017,” said Ruto.
Ruto, however, said that the county government is negotiating with striking doctors to get an immediate solution.
Mututho has in the past ruffled feathers with Kinutha Mbugua's administration which has accused him of undermining his leadership. They say he is eying the Nakuru governor’s seat in 2017.
