Thika Township MCA Kennedy Mwangi has accused the National Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) of failing to curb sale of illegal drinks.
Speaking at Kiandutu slums in Thika on Sunday, the MCA lashed out at Nacada saying that it has failed Kenyans.
The MCA said that Nacada has been unable to weed out illegal drinks from the market.
He alleged that the liquor industry is being operated by many quacks despite the stringent regulation by Nacada and the government.
“Nacada should explain why the country continues to lose Kenyans through drinking of illegal alcohol,” he said.
Mwangi said that the recent deaths of seven people in Kiandutu slums who consumed expired drinks reflect the inefficiency of Nacada.
He said that Nacada despite being funded by the government has failed to show its seriousness in cracking down on illegal alcohol sellers and brewers.
The MCA now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to take action against Nacada officials for failing to curb illegal alcohol.
Mwangi also asked Nacada chair John Mututho to stop too much talking and fight illegal alcohol sellers.
He said that as leaders they are losing patience with Nacada’s incompetence and lack of will to curb sell of illegal alcohol.
