The National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) Chairman John Mututho has said that they will sue all distillers of second generation alcohol for poisoning Kenyans.

Speaking on Sunday, Mututho said that his organisation will sue for Sh30 billion.

"Since 2014, over 30,000 Kenyans have died from complications related to alcohol consumption. Their relatives must be compensated," he said.

Mututho said that the second generation factories did not have licenses from Nacada to manufacture alcohol as stipulated under the Mututho laws and only operated with trade permits from local county governments.

"County governments have no legal authority to license any alcohol production factory," he said.

Mututho added that county governments have been illegally collecting monies from traders purporting to be licensing liquor premises.

"All money collected from bars by the county governments must be remitted to Nacada or otherwise we shall go to court," Mututho said.

He said that while seeking compensation, each death that will be proved to have been caused by illicit alcohol from the distilleries should each attract a Sh1 million compensation as a warning to others.
