The Council of Governors has called on county governments to use the remaining quartet in ensuring all matters that had not been prioritised in the first years are achieved, further asking governors to remain focused on delivering their campaign pledges.

The call came at a news briefing on Friday in Naivasha after CoG concluded a consultative meeting at the Enashipai Resort to deliberate on way forward after a delay in remitting funds by the national government.

Chairperson Peter Munya said the meeting was meant to evaluate the progress in all the 47 counties in trying to ensure the devolved goal is achieved uniformly.

“As a blanket body offering oversight to all the counties, we must ensure that everything is working well and that devolution achieves its main goal of ensuring services are brought back to the people at the grassroots level,” he said.

He stressed the importance of equitable distribution of resources saying the funds delay was affecting programmes and service delivery.

“The financial and human resource systems should be tailored in a manner that citizen participation will be critical in project management,” he advised.

He expressed confidence that all governors are committed to the successful implementation of devolution saying there were great recognisable strides in all counties.

The Meru Governor revealed that a governor’s summit will be held before the end of the year to discuss thorny issues amongst them the state of the economy in counties and the slow implementation of recommendations from the previous summits.

The meeting saw governors vow to walk in solidarity with their Murang’a counterpart Mwangi Wa Iria who was impeached by the county assembly saying assemblies in some counties lacked respect to governors, thereby holding them hostage when a governor refuses to bow to their demands.
