A Sh9 million trauma centre has been opened at the Naivasha Referral Hospital to treat survivors of road accidents.

The centre that was officially opened on Wednesday will also offer counselling services to accident survivors who are often traumatised.

Speaking to the media at the Naivasha Referral Hospital on Wednesday, Hospital Superintended Dr Joseph Mburu said the centre will help accidents victims recover.

The superintendent noted that with the high number of accidents reported along the Nakuru-Naivasha and Mai-Mahiu roads it was important for a trauma centre to be established.

Mburu said the centre will be well equipped to help trauma victims.

“The centre is now functional and ready to offer services to accident victims who find it hard to get treatment,” he said.

Mburu observed that the Naivasha Hospital receives at least five cases of trauma patients caused by accidents.

He said that the centre, which was funded by the county government, also has modern equipment and resources to handle patients.

Dr Mburu said accidents along the Nairobi-Naivasha-Nakuru road have caused a lot of suffering to many people and many accident survivors could not access good treatment.
