Naivasha sub-county has been ranked among top districts in terms of literacy and numerical skills.

According to a report released by Uwezo Kenya, Naivasha is ranked the 8th district with the brightest performers in comprehension reading and arithmetic.

The report ranks Naivasha among the top 10 best districts in Kenya in terms of producing excellent readers and mathematicians.

The study that was released on Wednesday ranks pupils in Nairobi and Kiambu as top performers nationwide.

Nairobi’s Westland’s district tops the list with the report indicating that its pupils are nine times more likely to read out passages and perform simple arithmetic, compared to those from West Pokot.

Speaking while releasing the report, Uwezo Kenya chairman John Mugo said one in 10 pupils  in Standard Four to Eight in Pokot and Baringo counties can hardly read and do simple arithmetic.

He blamed the problem to poor distribution of learning materials and resources, adding that counties in areas believed to be marginalised have been left behind.

Mugo called for equal distribution of resources and improved learning conditions to boost skills among pupils.
