Youths in Naivasha spent Saba Saba day on a peace campaign to foster cohesiveness and peaceful co-existence among residents.
Led by the Naivasha District Peace coordinator Ali Kariuki, the youths went on a door-to-door campaign in the estates asking people to maintain peace in the area.
“We have reached at least 300 houses in Site, Kabati, Kihoto and Guest Inn estates. We are asking the youth in the area not to engage in any violence,” said Kariuki.
Kariuki added that the youth campaign had not witnessed any ugly incidences and the people received the messages well. He appealed to the people who fled earlier from the area to come back to work. He added that the Naivasha area was peaceful and there was no need to fear.
“The fear of the unknown made them run away. They can, however, be sure that the area is safe and no one will intimidate or question them on the basis of their tribe. Kenyans are ready to work with each other,” he added.
Nominated ward representative Esther Magere was also on a peace campaign in the schools in the area.
Magere said that she visited 23 schools to find out whether attendance had been affected. She said that in all the schools she toured, students were going about their studies as usual. “We have been to South Lake area in Kamere, DCK and Housing areas and we have noted that all students are in school and learning is in progress. We hope that people will continue in peace like we have seen,” she added.
