Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has appealed for funds from the national government and donors to revive the defunct Pan African Vegetable Product factory in Naivasha.

Mbugua said the plan to revive the vegetable processing factory that stalled close to 20 years ago is to create jobs for unemployed youth in the county.

Speaking at Naivasha town, Mbugua said there is need for the national government to support moves seeking to revive stalled factories.

He added: “We want to address the rising cases of unemployment among the youth. These projects will help curb the problem when the initiatives are rolled out.”

Mbugua revealed that the county government is drafting proposals for investors interested in the vegetables factory that closed down in 1994.

The factory specialised in drying vegetables like cabbages, carrots, potatoes, onions and dill for export and local consumption.

Ninety percent of the factory’s products were exported to Europe.

Nakuru County’s Agriculture executive Felix Koskei said that financial assessments are being carried out on the factory and a report on the findings is expected to be tabled in six months.
