A Nakuru-based magistrate has been found among eight unfit magistrates to hold the office by a vetting board over financial impropriety and poor writing skills.

Bernard Ndenda is principle magistrate currently attached at Nakuru law court is alleged to have demanded a Sh50,000 bribe from a lawyer during his time at Thika.

The board said that they were not satisfied with his explanation.

The chairman of the vetting board, Sharad Rao, on Tuesday announced the list of vetted magistrates who were fit to hold office in the judiciary.

Rao released the results of 36 magistrates vetted within eastern and northern rift valley over the last two months. 

The sacked magistrates are Stephen Onsiero Mogute (Bungoma), Ben Mwai Mararo (Kyuso), Thomas Nzioki Thyaka (Lodwar), Bernard Ndenda ( Thika), Philip Wambua Mutua (Narok), Grace Ayuma M'mmasi (Vihiga), Stella Bonareri Atambo (Narok) and Atito Maoga (Machakos).

The board said that some of them had failed to interpret the law while other magistrates' writing skills were wanting.
