Police in Nakuru Town are holding a man suspected to be conning residents while posing as a nominated MCA in the Nakuru County Assembly.
Elkan Kiiru, 43, was arrested on Monday at Nakuru Town after a woman who claimed to have been swindled by the man informed police officers.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru OCPD Bernard Kioko said that the suspect had been on their radar for a while following claims of fraudulent activities.
“Yesterday we arrested a suspect who has been on our list and he is in police custody," said Kioko.
Kioko said police received information from a woman who claimed she had ben conned of over Sh90,000 by the man who promised her employment by the county government. She reported the whereabouts of the suspect to the police after spotting him strolling in the town.
The OCPD said they have launched investigations into the matter and urged more members of the public to come forward to register their claims.
“We expect more allegations against the suspect and members of public should forward their claims," added Kioko.
Kioko urged residents to be more cautious when transacting with unfamiliar people. He said the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
