Private schools in Nakuru have been asked to observe traffic rules as they transport students to and from school.
According to the Nakuru County ministry of roads, public works and transport, some schools had formed a habit of flouting traffic rules on their line of duty.
“Overloading, unroadworthy vehicles and ignorant drivers is what characterises our schools of late,” observed Joel Maina, county minister of roads, public works and transport.
The minister was reacting after the traffic department raised a red flag on different schools in Nakuru and its environs accusing them of risking the students’ lives by ignoring stipulated traffic rules.
“We have written to all school authorities to caution their drivers about the issue for it’s the lives of these young children that is in question here,” Mr Maina said.
This comes after measures have been implemented countrywide to help curb accidents that have been blamed on reckless driving and ignorance of traffic rules.
