The Nakuru County government has set aside Sh10 million to purchase a cancer screening machine to help with cancer-related illness, county health executive Samuel Mwaura has disclosed.
Speaking to reporters, Mwaura said the machine will be purchased before the end of this financial year. He said the machine will help ease access to cancer treatment.
“We have set aside enough money to buy modern cancer treatment equipment and improve provision of health services,” he said.
He observed that Nakuru has inadequate modern facilities to manage and treat cancer, which forces residents to seek treatment services in Nairobi at a high cost.
Mwaura added that enough money has been set aside for the construction of a mortuary at Olenguruone hospital in Kuresoi.
At the same time, the official said the health sector has been allocated Sh3.4 billion in this financial year. He said the money will be used to buy medicine, equipment and pay salaries for health workers.
