Scores of Nakuru bodaboda operators have received free training from a motor cycle assembly company.
The operators also received free basic mechanical training.
Haojue Ltd Company Nakuru branch sales manager, Peter Kariuki, said that the training was in tandem with the changing innovations in the motorcycle industry.
Presiding over the occasion at Kanu Street in Nakuru Town on Thursday, Kariuki said, "The motorcycle industry is constantly changing and there is need for motorcycle riders to be equipped with the latest skills in the industry."
Kariuki said that the training would help bodaboda operators to minimise road accidents.
“Most road accidents are caused by bodaboda operators due to the insufficient training. This calls for regular training among bodaboda operators,” said Kariuki.
The operators were taken through basic motoring skills like carburetor inspection.
Kariuki urged bodaboda operators to comply with all traffic regulations to ensure they are not subjected to harassment by law enforcers.
“Those involved in the bodaboda industry should acquire all the required traffic documents from the Traffic Department to avoid arrest by traffic officers,” said Kariuki.
He hailed the introduction of bodabodas as it has created opportunities among the youth.
“The bodaboda industry continues to record impressive performance by employing hundreds of youths," said Kariuki.
He, however, cautioned the operators against involving themselves in criminal activities.
