Youth leaders in Nakuru West are now fearing for their lives after receiving threats following their involvement in the fight against illicit brew.
The leaders said they have been receiving threats through phone calls and SMSs.
Accordoing to Hamisi Mohammed, a youth leader, some of the brewers of the beer may be involved in the threats.
“There are people who attempted to knock me down with a vehicle," he said.
"They also claimed that they will get to me in case I am spotted in the area,” he said at a press conference at Oloika Lodge on Tuesday.
Mohammed said there are 15 brewers in the area who were well known.
“We are following the directive by the President to destroy all the illegal liquor and we will not relent in our efforts to destroy the drinks,” he cited.
Martin Ngare said they have been receiving calls asking them to stop pouring the liquor or face dire consequences.
“We fear for our lives because even when they were attacking us they claimed we would do nothing to them,” he added.
Victor Ngatia pointed out that there was need for the government to move the liquor industries to a different area.
“They should create a special area in the industrial area for them to carry out their manufacturing activities especially since their waste products end up in the neighbourhood creating an environment menace,” he cited.
