Youth from Nakuru Town have something to smile after the Nakuru county government launched Kazi Kwa vijana programme aimed at boosting their income generation.

Speaking on Friday at Baricho Road ,Nakuru Town during unplugging of silted tunnels ,the youth expressed optimism that their livelihoods would improve.

Jack Maina who is spearheading the unblocking of the tunnels said a new dawn has set to Nakuru youth .“ Jobless youth will have now a chance to eke a living through Kazi kwa vijana “, said Maina .

Maina said that the initiative is a good sign that the county government has taken to empower youth economically.

“ We are happy by the county government for initiating such a programme because at the end of the day several youth will be able to to put food on table and meet other needs”, said Maina .

He said the initiative would help in reduction of crimes among youth .

“ Most youth indulge into crimes due to lack of something to do but with such initiative we hope the rate of cries will come down”, said Maina .

Maina however urged the county government to address the prevalence of poverty in informal estates like Bodeni that has forced many youth to engage in crimes .

“ The county government of Nakuru with local leaders should do more to address the high rate in informal estates which has lured many youth into crimes “, said Maina .

He also called on more youth to join the initiative to improve their livelihoods
