Youth in Nakuru have been urged to work together for a peaceful coexistence even as the 2017 electioneering period fast approaches.
Speaking on Sunday after attending a church service at the Pentecostal Church of Africa, Flamingo Ward MCA Moses Gichangi said young people were the drivers of society and if they mess up, the whole generation is doomed to fail.
Gichangi also called on fellow leaders to be in the forefront of unifying the youth instead of using them to confuse society for political reasons.
“As a leader, it’s always good to gauge what you say in public during political rallies because your words can be very manipulative if misinterpreted,” he said.
This comes barely a day after youth heckled the MCA at a funeral function in the area, accusing him of not prioritising development something Gichangi said is politically instigated.
“My development record speaks for itself. If someone who intends to vie in 2017 thinks such tactics will get him votes and make my people turn against me, I pity them,” he said, adding that such political tactics were out dated and lacked space in a democratic society.
He advised youth to be accommodative of each other irrespective of their tribes saying Nakuru is a cosmopolitan county.
“Ours is an industrialised county which attracts manpower from other parts of the country to work in the available factories. It’s only by accommodating them that we will achieve our goal of becoming an economic hub in the region,” the MCA said.
He further called on the youth to apply for county administrators’ posts recently advertised by the County Public Service board and stop accusing the county of not doing enough to address unemployment among the youth.
“Stop complaining a lot and take up the available opportunities because everybody cannot be employed at a go,” he advised.
