The National Construction Authority has shut down at least 23 construction sites in Thika East area which were found to fall short of the required standards.
According to the message sent to the press on Tuesday, the NCA officer in charge of the area Isiah Achini said the inspection was done in collaboration with the county government of Kiambu where those found contravening the law were given 14 days to comply.
The officers said they have carried out a quality assurance activity in the area moving from one sub-county to another for an interval of 10 days and found the 23 construction sites that were non-compliant.
“We have shut the sites due to lack of registered architects and engineers and NCA registered contractors on site. Others lacked approvals from county government and workers lacking protective gear," said Achini.
He added that there was no construction hoarding and fencing in most of the sites where he says some of them might have to be brought after the 14-day work suspension.
He said if they fail to comply action will be taken against them and those who will be found on the construction.
Over the weekend the county government of Kiambu brought down ten houses in Ali Estate in Juja town after the failed to comply and rendering over 50 families homeless.
