The National Commission on Integration and Cohesion (NCIC) in collaboration with different churches has launched a peace initiative that targets all 47 counties.
Speaking at a Nairobi hotel on Wednesday after a two-day seminar with church leaders of different denominations from the 47 counties, NCIC chairperson Francis ole Kaparo expressed confidence that the initiative will yield positive results as the country stretches towards a politicking phase which he said is the most delicate periods the country undergoes.
“We all know what politics has done to us as far as dividing the country is concerned, most of us have felt the heat as a result of irresponsible utterances that accompany political campaigns,” Kaparo said.
According to the former national assembly speaker, the church had the sole responsibility of preaching peace, saying that the church was the conscience of the society and that the country was being affected by issues that needed immediate intervention.
“There will never be peace if all the denominations are not united towards that important function of uniting a nation. A nation that prays together stays together,” he noted.
He further urged the clergy to lead peace efforts that will make faithful walk one path towards a peaceful Kenya.
“Let all of us be devoted to the words of our national anthem because just like the anthem, we all serve one God who is said to be happy when we co-exist peacefully. Don’t be separated because of politics, denomination, tribe and other trivial issues that never form the core values that define a society,” the NCIC boss asserted.
The seminar brought together more than 100 church leaders who are set to start its campaign in Isiolo then Samburu counties before rolling out to the other counties.
