Teachers who had applied for TSC jobs before the courts’ order to stop the exercise in the Kiambu County have a reason to smile after they received employment letters confirming that they have secured a three months contract.

Kiambu County TSC Director Jane Njage on Thursday told journalists that the commission had already communicated with the applicants and they will by next week be posted to different schools in the county.

She noted that since the applicants were few, all of them will be absorbed into the system. She explained that when TSC advertised for the new jobs, many took it for granted as less than 500 applicants submitted their letters for the available 1,092 slots that were announced.

She said that because of ignorance, many graduates were locked out of the exercise.

“I can confirm that we have sent out approximately 400 employment letters to those who took it upon themselves to apply for the jobs during the last month teacher’s strike. Out of these 250 of them will be posted to primary schools and the rest in public secondary schools,” she said.

Njage observed that the teachers will work together with others in helping to improve performance in public schools noting that if more graduates had applied before the court order, they would have been hired.

The TSC officer said the commission had filed an appeal seeking to be allowed to continue with the exercise of hiring the 70,000 relief teachers.

Njage urged the teachers' unions to support the exercise saying the government was doing all it could to create employment for graduates.

On the invigilation of the ongoing KCSE exams, the director explained that they did not call for any applications for the exercise, but they used TSC teachers.

She, however, noted that in Ruiru Sub-County there were many private schools and therefore, they were forced to use invigilators without TSC numbers.
