Manga residents have been urged by the National Environment Management Authority to avoid quarries especially this time when rains have began to avoid deaths.

According to Manga sub-county NEMA representative Eric Ondeu, the residents face risk of falling into quarries.

The NEMA official blamed greedy developers for building residential houses on top of open quarries before they are sealed hence making the area more risky.

He added that though their office has warned the residents against getting to the quarries they do not seem to stop hence there is need for the government to take the necessary action.

Speaking to one of the quarrymen in the area Justus Ondindi however, residents said it would be difficult for them to leave the quarries since that is where they derive their livelihood.
