Residents of Nessut area in Nakuru have expressed displeasure in the manner in which health issues are being handled.
In a demonstration held in the area on Friday morning, the residents demanded that their dispensary be equipped fully with modern equipment.
According to the demonstrators, money channelled to their area dispensary was being swindled by people in charge of developing the facility.
“The governor himself assured us that money had been allocated for the renovation of our dispensary while on a visit here mid last year but interestingly, no tangible effort has been seen at the facility. Is it that the monies are being misused or the governor lied to us?” said Maina wa Mangi, who was speaking on behalf of residents.
He accused area MCA of ignoring their pleas to have the dispensary fully equipped arguing that their women were suffering trying to acquire antenatal care.
“Why should our women travel to other areas for check up while the services can be offered here?” he wondered, adding that some had been subjected to delivery complications while they try to access other hospitals.
The nurse in charge at the dispensary, Janet Wairimu, noted that lack of basic facilities was making their work hard.
“As much as we try our level best to make them (residents) understand, the government should at least come in and equip our facility with up to date facilities.
She was quick to decry their poor working conditions saying that if not done with urgency, the situation might move out of hand.
The residents threatened to paralyse activities at the facility if the county government does not move in to facelift the dispensary.
A delegation was sent to the local administration to help them deliver their grievances to the governor through the Health Ministry before deciding on what to do next.
