A Sh2 million police post has been opened at Kiamiramba at the boarder of Yatta, Kithimani and Masinga sub-counties to combat the increasing cases of insecurity and night attacks.
According to Yatta OCPD Edward Kipsang, the facility which has been put up with funding from the county government will improve security in the area.
Mr Kipsang said frequent cases of night attacks and murder in the remote area had made it necessary to put up the police post that is now occupied by regular and Administration Police officers.
Mr Kipsang, who was speaking during the launch of the police post on Thursday assured locals that their security and that of their property was now guaranteed.
He lauded governor Alfred Mutua for complementing efforts being made by national government to provide adequate security to all Kenyans.
The officer also urged local people to play a leading role in their own security by embracing the community policing concept and the Nyumba Kumi initiative.
He stressed that security forces could do a much better job if members of the public volunteered information which he said had in many cases led to the apprehension of lawbreakers.
