Legal stakeholders and the national assembly should relook at the constitution to put more emphasis on the formation of county governments in a bid to curb a looming crisis of discrimination of certain clans, a Gesima politician says.

Speaking on Wednesday at Gesima, Jubilee Alliance Party (Jap) Charles Maroko said many counties were struggling with leadership due to poor structures of representation that were apparently locking out the minorities.

Mr Mokaya said the issue has been causing political storms in many county governments hence need to solve it through legislation.

“The constitutions talks about minorities categorically in a superficial manner and that are why I am calling for improved legislation to ensure all clan are represented well in the county governments. Even the issue of tribes should be looked at. Through legislation, this is the only way to bring harmony to our counties,” he said.

He urged members of the political class from counties with a number of clans to persistently hold meetings to ensure the issue of incorporating minorities in the county leadership is articulately addressed.

“Some of our counties have a number of clans with some of them poorly represented in terms of governance. Besides the legislations, we must have a political goodwill from the politicians to ensure that every deserving Kenyan is given a chance to serve regardless of the background,” he said.

Mr Mokaya said enough should be done from legal experts to ensure more legislation is done to ensure minority clans are taken care of in the county units.
